Ever since the infamous "Hindenberg Disaster" in 1936, we have only seen airships as novelties and mostly for huge advertising signs (a.k.a. Goodyear Blimp).
This Youtube video talks about what may need to happen for society to finally overcome the Hindenburg disaster. We need to start using this means of transportation now, and continue pushing the envelope for airships in aerospace technology.
The video goes on to mention that the only times we really see airships now is usually as advertising (Goodyear blimp) or in fictional movies and TV shows. My personal favorite were the airships in the ABC TV show "FRINGE", which would show airships frequently. Mostly as the visual cue that we were in an alternate reality "Earth" where the Hindenburg disaster never happened, and this means of Air travel proceeded to develop till the present time. Talk about divergent timelines!
